The Paragon Janus-23 can fire both pottery and glass. Heating elements are mounted in the lid and sidewalls. Select between glass and pottery with the flip of a switch. With the switch in the glass position, heat comes from the top elements and the middle sidewall element. With the switch in the pottery position, heat comes from only the sidewall elements.
In the glass mode, fuse and sag large glass projects placed on a single shelf. In the pottery mode, fire to cone 10. You can also fire several shelves of smaller glass pieces using the pottery mode.
Spring Counter-Balance Lid
Advanced Element Grooves
The elements in the lid are mounted in a firebrick “ball” groove that eliminates element pins. The element coils are wider than the groove opening, so the elements stay in place without pins. The groove dissipates heat efficiently.
The lid on the Janus-23 is easy to lift with the exclusive, patented Paragon spring counter-balance. For easier maintenance, we use 2” high blank wall bricks in the top row. Since the brick is without element grooves, it is less susceptible to damage during loading.
Hinged Control Panel
The patented control box on the Janus-23 opens forward for easy maintenance. A folding support arm holds the box in the open position.
Thermocouple with “Special Limit” Wire
The thermocouple senses temperature inside the kiln. It is the small rod that extends into the firing chamber. The ¼” wide Type-K, 14-gauge, exposed-tip thermocouple is made with special-limit wire for superior accuracy. The exposed tip gives the controller a fast response time for even temperatures during holds. The thermocouple is made in America to our exacting standards
Heavy Duty Rolling Stand Included, 24” Square x 12” High
A deluxe kiln stand with locking casters is included at no extra charge. Enjoy the convenience of rolling the kiln out of the way when not in use. The stand is rock solid. It fits together with interlocking components that assemble with one size of bolt. (Ships unassembled.)
Notes about the Orton VentMaster Option
When ordering a Ready-To-Ship kiln with the Orton VentMaster Option, you will need to prepare your kiln to attach the VentMaster when it arrives. The VentMaster installation process is outlined in the Orton VentMaster Instruction Manual.
On page 4 you will find the chart that helps you determine the number and size of holes to be drilled in the lid and floor of the kiln. On pages 5 and 6 you will find diagrams to help you determine where those holes should be drilled for your kiln design. Drilling these holes is SUPER easy and something anyone can do. This does not require any special skills or knowledge base. You'll just need some basic tools and you'll be ready to go!
Installing the VentMaster to your kiln is very easy and the directions are very clear. Once the VentMaster is attached to your kiln you can then decide exactly how you want to direct the kiln fumes out of your workspace.
