Why Upgrade from Mechanical Relays to Solid-State Relays?
Mechanical Relays, which come standard on most kilns have internal moving parts which over time wear out and need to be replaced. Kiln manufacturers recommend you replace your mechanical relays approximately every 2 years. Solid-state relays have no moving parts and last far longer than standard mechanical relays and offer far better temperature control during hold times. Since solid-state relays also have no moving parts to wear out, they NEVER need to be replaced. You will notice that solid-state relays are silent. The only sound you will hear is just the reassuring hum of the heating elements. So, this factory upgrade saves you potential down time from having to wait for new relays to arrive, potential over-fires from relays sticking in the closed position, potential aggravation from having to learn how to remove and replace the mechanical relays yourself. We think this upgrade is well worth the cost and will save you time and aggravation over the life of your kiln.

***Looking for a Vitrigraph stand... we suggest using the Seville Classics UltraDurable Commercial-Grade 5-Tier Steel Wire Shelving. Set it up using the top and bottom shelves only... and you are good to go! It's tall, portable, and perfect! This is what the pro's use, and you won't be sorry for getting it. Honestly, don't go trying to rig up a ladder and some boards, etc. because you don't want to spend extra dollars, or you think it will take up too much room. Whatever you set up will end up being an obstacle to you using your vitrigraph because it will be a PAIN to set up and break down. Trust us! We've been there. Save yourself some hassle!

My little Olympic kiln is wonderful. I should have purchased a larger one but that’s the way this goes.

I'm very excited to have my first kiln and currently using external pyrometers to map the temperature profile with the bead collar in place. No such info provided.
I was expecting somewhat higher build quality with respect to the bricks and overall fit & finish. The whole thing seems a bit wobbly and fragile but considering the brutal temperature excursions this will endure maybe tighter tolerances wouldn't make sense. I am very concerned with the little divots in the bricks and how they will survive over time.
Wish list:
1. The manuals for HB89E kiln and Genesis controller are definitely intended for ceramics with glass as an afterthought. I bought this principally for boro glass and maybe later doing some medium fire ceramic. I hope I didn't make a bad choice. Specific info would be great for this model + collar, and for annealing boro.
2. A larger Genesis controller screen to see it without getting up close.
3. Bead collar door that closes snuggly when mandrels are not used. Bonus for some kind of built-in "gate" rack to hold mandrels in place when they are used.
4. Shorter lead time.
