The Evenheat KH 418 is designed for knife makers whose shops and workbenches come with a mortgage. Simply plug the KH 418 into any standard 120V household receptacle and you're ready to go.
The KH Series takes its design from our well regarded KF Series. It's a rugged and solid design that serves the knife maker well. Available with our TAP Touchscreen or Rampmaster.

120V North American Operation
For North American heat treaters who can't get access to 240V, the KH Series is made just for you. KH Series heat treat ovens are designed to operate from the North American standard household voltage of 120V.
The KH Series models are very capable of reaching temperature, however they will take about twice as long to get there than a comparable 240V model. Generally speaking they will reach 1650°F in about 1-1/2 hours.
Side Opening Door
Heat treating requires the removing of some very hot material from the chamber in order to quench. Everything in the chamber is hot, which includes the door. The doors on the KH's swing out and to the side. This puts the super-heated door well away from you as you concentrate on the work at hand.
Cool Touch Handle
The handle/latch on our swing out door is conveniently located at the front of the door, not hidden along the side. This spring loaded, phenolic handle is cool to the touch, is one-handed in design and serves as the door latch as well.
Relay Access Port
All KH models incorporate our Relay Access Port for simple, no-panel-off relay replacement. Simply remove the access plate to gain access to the relay. There's no need to remove the control panel and dig into the internal wiring. It's absolutely simple and effective and all it takes is a screwdriver!
It's a given that mechanical relays will fail at some point. This relay access port really comes in handy when they do.
Door Shield
The KH's feature a door shield to provide protection against firebrick damage as well as to reduce the temperature seen at the door and door handle.
Swing View Equipped
Our TAP II and Rampmaster temperature controls are fitted to our Swing View Adjustable Enclosure. The swing view is a pivoting, swing-up enclosure that allows you to rotate the control to a comfortable viewing and programming angle. Once you're done, lay it back down to see it from across your shop. It's that simple.
The swing view pairs well with touchscreen controls like the TAP II as viewing angle can be perfectly aligned. You'll love it.
Firebrick Construction
Like all our heat treat ovens, KH models are built completely of firebrick. Firebrick has the desired characteristic of storing heat and then releasing it slowly and gently during the soak/hold portion of the
process. It's this particular quality that serves the heat treat process so well.
Loud Alarm Output Jack
A Loud Alarm output jack is included to connect our optional Loud Alarm. Enjoy 80db of irritating alarm bliss and never miss another quench.
2200°F Maximum Temperature
The maximum usable temperature for the KH models is 2200°F (1204°C). This maximum is well within the range for the vast majority of steels used by knife makers and machine shops. Our KH 418 model features a side-element-only design borrowed from our LB Series models.
Maximum temperature is limited by the heating element wire used. We use a Sandvik Nickel-Chrome alloy wire for all KH model heating elements. This alloy has proven to last, it tends to stay put and generally plays very nice when used at temps below 2200°F.
Maintenance Parts Tag
To assist you in replacing worn items we have included a maintenance parts tag indicating the proper Evenheat part numbers for anticipated maintenance items. Wish we had this decades ago.
Strong Stand and Tool Rest
Stands are strong and include a tool rest. Cool!
Power Interrupt Switch Equipped
The Power Interrupt Switch removes power from all heating elements as the door is opened and re-applies power as the door is closed. The switch used for this feature is a true safety switch and is designed
specifically for safety applications. This safety switch will literally tear apart and open any welded or stuck contacts - true safety!
Options:
TAP II or Rampmaster Controls Option
KH models are available with your choice of the TAP II or Rampmaster temperature controllers. Check out our Controls tab for detailed descriptions of both controls.
Quiet Drive Solid State Relay Option
All KH models are available with our Quiet Drive Solid State Relay option. Our Quiet Drive Solid State Relay System offers tight temperature control, high reliability and increased heating element life. The Quiet Drive is arguably the best designed and best performing solid state system on the market.
Why Upgrade from Mechanical Relays to Solid-State Relays?
Mechanical Relays, which come standard on most kilns have internal moving parts which over time wear out and need to be replaced. Kiln manufacturers recommend you replace your mechanical relays approximately every 2 years. Solid-state relays have no moving parts and last far longer than standard mechanical relays and offer far better temperature control during hold times. Since solid-state relays also have no moving parts to wear out, they NEVER need to be replaced. You will notice that solid-state relays are silent. The only sound you will hear is just the reassuring hum of the heating elements. So, this factory upgrade saves you potential down time from having to wait for new relays to arrive, potential over-fires from relays sticking in the closed position, potential aggravation from having to learn how to remove and replace the mechanical relays yourself. We think this upgrade is well worth the cost and will save you time and aggravation over the life of your kiln.

good item and good to use once you understand the computer. just delivery is a bit wonky. You hear nothing for 6 to 8 weeks and then it suddenly arrives. I would expect a little more info for this price..
Easy to set up and use. It is my second.

I use this oven to heat treat and temper blades. Sometimes when I am running a batch of knives through a tempering cycle I noticed that the temperature is not stable. I set it to 375F and it swings as high as 425 and down to 333 and dropping before I caught it and reset it. I can’t give a 5 star review for a $2500 piece of gear that I don’t trust to walk a away from it for a few minutes. But, it does give me precise temps for quenching, normalizing, and most of the time tempering so I’ll settle for a minor issue but it is annoying.
Thanks for your review! We value your input. If you have more to share, contact us at customerservice@kilnfrog.com or via phone 361-596-3764.
If you have a 110v limit you will not regret this kiln.

Easy to learn. Easy to heat treat my own blades now. Even though it’s 110V it gets up to heat in about 30-35 min.
