Why the LB Series?
The LB Series side-element-only design was inspired by culinary and long-blade makers as well as the knife making the community as a whole. Knifemakers needed to use the entire length of the chamber without overheating their blades at the back wall. Evenheat took a fresh look at their heat treat oven designs, removed the rear wall element and created the side element only LB Series.
The results are incredible: front to back temperature distribution is dead-nut. Whether you're making culinary, tactical, fixed blades, folders, doing gun work or something else entirely, the LB Series sets the new standard! A special thanks to culinary blade makers Bill Burke and Geoff Feder for their design advice and prototype testing.
Side-Only Element Design
The LB Series design was inspired, in part, by culinary bladesmiths who generally make long, thin blades. These bladesmiths needed to use the entire length of the chamber without overheating their blades at the back wall. We took a fresh look, got rid of the rear wall heating element, and nailed it.
The front to back temperature distribution in the LB is incredibly even. Positioning in the chamber has no effect and the entire length can be used. The LB, with it's side-only element design, is the new standard!
Side Opening Door
Heat treating requires the removing of some very hot material from the chamber in order to quench. Everything in the chamber is hot, which includes the door. The doors on the LB's swing out and to the side. This puts the super-heated door well away from you as you concentrate on the work at hand.
Cool Touch Handle
The handle/latch on our swing out door is conveniently located at the front of the door, not hidden along the side. This spring loaded, phenolic handle is cool to the touch, is one-handed in design and serves as the
door latch as well.
Relay Access Port
All LB models incorporate our Relay Access Port for simple, no-panel-off relay replacement. Simply
remove the access plate to gain access to the relay. There's no need to remove the control panel and dig into the internal wiring. It's absolutely simple and effective and all it takes is a screwdriver!
It's a given that mechanical relays will fail at some point. This relay access port really comes in handy when they do.
Door Shield
The LB's feature a door shield to provide protection against firebrick damage as well as to reduce the temperature seen at the door and door handle.
Swing View Equipped
Our TAP II and Rampmaster temperature controls are fitted to our Swing View Adjustable Enclosure. The swing view is a pivoting, swing-up enclosure that allows you to rotate the control to a comfortable viewing and programming angle. Once you're done, lay it back down to see it from across your shop. It's that simple.
The swing view pairs well with touchscreen controls like the TAP II as viewing angle can be perfectly aligned. You'll love it.
Firebrick Construction
Like all our heat treat ovens, LB models are built completely of firebrick. Firebrick has the desired characteristic of storing heat and then releasing it slowly and gently during the soak/hold portion of the
process. It's this particular quality that serves the heat treat process so well.
Loud Alarm Output Jack
A Loud Alarm output jack is included to connect our optional Loud Alarm. Enjoy 80db of irritating alarm bliss and never miss another quench.
2200°F Maximum Temperature
The maximum usable temperature for the LB models is 2200°F (1204°C). This maximum is well within the range for the vast majority of steels used by knife makers and machine shops.
Maximum temperature is limited by the heating element wire used. We use a Sandvik Nickel-Chrome alloy wire for all LB model heating elements. This
alloy has proven to last, it tends to stay put and generally plays very nice when used at temps below 2200°F.
Maintenance Parts Tag
To assist you in replacing worn items we have included a maintenance parts tag indicating the proper Evenheat part numbers for anticipated maintenance items. Wish we had this decades ago.
Strong Stand and Tool Rest
Stands are strong and include a tool rest. Cool!
OPTIONS:
TAP II or Rampmaster Controls Option
LB models are available with your choice of the TAP II or Rampmaster temperature controllers. Check out our Controls tab for detailed descriptions of both controls.
Quiet Drive Solid State Relay Option
All LB models are available with our Quiet Drive Solid State Relay option. Our Quiet Drive Solid State Relay System offers tight temperature control, high reliability and increased heating element life. The Quiet Drive is arguably the best designed and best performing solid state system on the market.
Power Interrupt Switch Option
The Power Interrupt Switch removes power from all heating elements as the door is opened and re-applies power as the door is closed. The switch used for this feature is a true safety switch and is designed specifically for safety applications. This safety switch will literally tear apart and open any welded or stuck contacts - true safety!
Why Upgrade from Mechanical Relays to Solid-State Relays?
Mechanical Relays, which come standard on most kilns have internal moving parts which over time wear out and need to be replaced. Kiln manufacturers recommend you replace your mechanical relays approximately every 2 years. Solid-state relays have no moving parts and last far longer than standard mechanical relays and offer far better temperature control during hold times. Since solid-state relays also have no moving parts to wear out, they NEVER need to be replaced. You will notice that solid-state relays are silent. The only sound you will hear is just the reassuring hum of the heating elements. So, this factory upgrade saves you potential down time from having to wait for new relays to arrive, potential over-fires from relays sticking in the closed position, potential aggravation from having to learn how to remove and replace the mechanical relays yourself. We think this upgrade is well worth the cost and will save you time and aggravation over the life of your kiln.

So far this oven/kiln done everything I’ve asked of it. It makes my shop way more efficient. I should have bought one way sooner.

ill let you know if i ever get it
The oven seems to work well. It’s not intuitive (the controller) , so I have to google some troubleshooting tips. I think it’s quite a bit of bang for the buck.
I got the larger one, so I’m looking forward to making hatchets and machetes soon.

Overall, Kiln Frog was very up front about shipping times. They also responed quickly to any questions. As for the HT oven, its such a fine quality piece. Shipping package was very good too. I want to thank both EvenHeat and Kiln Frog.
